Health screening is of utmost importance in my breeding program. I screen my dogs for hip dysplasia, luxating patellae, congenitive heart problems￿ and genetic eye diseases , as well as I scope my dogs for Upper Airway Syndrome. My bitches, as well as all the studs I have used, are entered in OFA and CERF databases.￿

In 2007 the Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club joined Canine Health Information Center (CHIC).￿ The club￿s recommendation for Norwich terrier breeders is to screen the breeding stock for hip dysplasia, luxating patellae and eye diseases, something we have been doing at Dignpop kennel since the beginning.￿ We are proud to have all Dignpops used in our breeding program conform to the club￿s requirement, and go beyond it by performing a diagnostic endoscopy of the respiratory tract, under anesthesia, prior to breeding.￿

I believe in breeding for the temperament true to the standard and take the words ￿fearless￿ and ￿affectionate￿ as my goal for the correct terrier temperament.￿￿ In addition to thoughtful selection and pairing of breeding dogs, I follow Dr. Carmen Battaglia￿s protocol for early neurological stimulation and follow ￿Super Dog￿ program for teaching young pups confidence and boldness.

Of course, I also strive to breed beautiful Norwich terriers, as close representatives of the breed standard as possible, pairing dogs of compatible pedigrees and aiming at improving my line with each new generation.

I am a Norwich Terrier enthusiast, a hobby breeder and a competitor in dog sports.￿￿ I serve on the Board of the national breed club￿Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club and I am very involved in numerous local dog clubs.￿￿ Our dogs are a way of life. Together with my husband Michael Chiarella and my daughter Koby we raise our dogs as family members.￿ They sleep in our bedroom, hike with us at least weekly, often daily, train in agility, earthdog and basic obedience, and are allowed and encouraged to be terriers, to track and hunt small rodents.￿ They also happen to be show dogs with some impressive wins.

Our dogs are trained to be reliable off leash and so enjoy the freedom of year-round exercise and exploration while running in the woods, on the beaches and in dog parks.
